Residents and tourists in Can Tho had an impressive experience when the Cai Khe Boat Harbour Management Unit, Ninh Kieu District operated an artistic lighting and water music system to serve the National Day holiday on September 2.
The art lighting and water music performance on the night of National Day September 2nd, includes revolutionary songs praising the homeland of Can Tho combined with light shows from laser lights and other modern lights.
The Cai Khe Boat Lock Project is a package under the Can Tho City Development and Urban Resilience Project (Project 3), which started in September 2022. After nearly 2 years of construction, the project has been completed.
Project 3 with a total investment of more than 9,000 billion VND, including many construction packages for embankments, culverts, and boat locks to solve the flooding problem in the city center.
To make the culverts and boat locks operate synchronously and effectively, the city recently conducted the final test run of the Flood Risk Management Information System for Can Tho.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Deputy Director of the ODA Project Management Board of Can Tho City, said that in Project 3, there are a total of 14 sluices, of which two boat locks (Cai Khe and Hang Bang) have been completed. Cai Khe boat lock is the largest project among the 14 sluices.
The flood risk management information system for Can Tho operates completely automatically, sensors in many different locations can measure rainfall and water volume.
From there, the system will issue commands to close or open the sluice, turn off or turn on the pump when necessary.
In addition to the function of contributing to flood prevention during high tides, the design of the Cai Khe Boat Dock project also has a landscape arch combined with an artistic lighting system and water music performance.
The embankment systems connect to the sewer and a backup pumping station with a capacity of 48m3/s; there are also additional items: management building campus, trees creating landscape at the project.

In parallel, before this year's high tide season, the Can Tho City Development and Urban Resilience Project (Project 3) will be put into use to help control severe flooding in the center of Ninh Kieu and Binh Thuy districts, especially to protect the safety of more than 420,000 people.
