The Au Thuyen Cai Khe Project is worth more than 436 billion VND, belonging to the Can Tho City Development and Urban Resilience Enhancement Project (referred to as Project 3), established by the ODA Project Management Board. Can Tho City is the investor.
Starting from September 2022, with a construction period of 22 months, the Cai Khe lock package has a fairly fast construction progress compared to the remaining packages of Project 3.
This project is one of many flood prevention solutions for central Can Tho.
Along with the package to improve the drainage system on 32 central roads of Ninh Kieu district, Cai Khe boat lock is considered a flood prevention solution for the inner core area of Can Tho.
Cai Khe lock is designed as a lock and release system to regulate water volume during the rainy season.
The project has three main sewer compartments (each compartment is 20m wide) and one lock compartment. When it is necessary to prevent flooding in the city, these three sewer compartments will close to prevent water from the Can Tho River from flowing into the inner city.
Project 3 has a very important meaning, contributing to making Can Tho the center and driving force of socio-economic development for the Mekong Delta; Reduce damage caused by flooding in the center of Can Tho city and improve the transportation system connecting intra-regional and inter-regional areas.
